The South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal also known as the KZN South Coast or just the South Coast is a popular holiday destination in the Southern region of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The “South Coast” starts 30-minutes’ drive south from Durban and follows the coastline for about 120km. Stretching from Scottburgh in the north to Port Edward in the south and Harding in the west the South Coast is governed by the Ugu District Municipality. The South Coast with its subtropical climate is known as Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom and has 58 golden beaches which include many of South Africa’s favourite beaches. These include Shelly Beach, Margate Beach, Lucien Beach, St Michael’s Beach and Ramsgate Beach which are loved by locals and holiday makers alike for swimming, surfing, body-boarding and fishing from the rocks or piers. Follow the ever present gannets and seagulls diving into the massive shoals as they are chased along the coastline, bubbling up to the surface to escape the hungry predators below.

The coastal region has nature reserves and the two gorges, Oribi Gorge and Umtamvuna Gorge with amazing wildlife, hiking, picnicking and extreme activities.
